Isadora was distracted. Far too distracted from her own shot nerves to catch his nervousness, and far too shy to pick up on the innuendo. Moreover, she couldn't look him in the eye for more than a second. She stared at her fingers, then back to her notebook. Her brows furrowed at the request for reading material. She let out a quick exhalation and scribbled out a reference code.
"There are two things you ought to know of this library. Firstly, that this book is never where it belongs. Secondly, if you can read this cover to cover, anything you read subsequently takes on a... new ...perspective. Excuse me."
With that, she collected her things, and scurried off into another section of the library. She would be double checking parts of texts for well over an hour before she finally left.
It was, in part, a challenge. It was also, in part, a genuine attempt. The book for which Sylvan was encouraged to search was not among the most thrilling, but one of the most useful. It was large and cumbersome, and it was used almost daily. Its place on the shelf had been cluttered with other similar texts, such that the book no longer fit in its little home, and migrated from spot to spot in attempts to take root. Where it had travelled to and courtesy of whom may later become the librarian's greatest vexation. Isadora could hardly wait for his take on her suggestion.
He would later realize the book was a dictionary.
